Long Time No Post

A lot has been happening but nothing that prevented posting. A complete lack of time acknowledgment is likely the primary reason. On the basis of the number of active projects, the workload has definitely slowed by a dramatic percentage. The percentage of projects waiting on financing is higher than ever, the list is visually long and it means that no work is happening on them.

Our work with Revit Suite 2009 is bogged down is a lack of attention. The one project we have that allows us to try out the BIM method is one of those projects stuck waiting for financing. It's a shame, too, since we should be using our available time to establish a lot of the front end work needed.

I've been working on a remodeled project I inherited from a former employee, getting it to 90% completion status. It was not easy since the one of five floors is to remain occupied during construction; a small part of third floor is also to remain occupied. Originally constructed in 1960-61, it's a multi-zone system with equipment buried inside the building with limited ability for openings to remove and replace equipment.

All the equipment is well past it's lifetime but admittedly it's still running albeit with a lot of maintenance care. Interestingly, the original design was done by an engineer whose company I started working for when I moved to this state back in 1975. Seeing those original plans brought back some memories. Keeping the existing pnuematic controls and multizone systems running will be challenging. While it's been reviewed, I still don't feel confortable enough to relax.

While that project is in for review with the client and contractors, I'm onto another. Essentially Phase Two a tenant finish for a veteran's therapy clinic. Phase One is done and under construction. Now comes the prosthetics lab. The tenant had some work done already by a supplier of dust collection systems. My end is to review that system to make sure it's not in conflict with the HVAC system I design.

Punched the building criteria for load calcs and zoning. Things are working out better than I expected. The existing rooftop units are sized well. A little more zoning work and I'll drop in the diffusers and connect the dots with ductwork. All things considered it's pretty easy really but having done similar designs in the past makes it seem easy.

Still have makeup air, fume hood and oven hoods to duct and connect to fans on the roof. Supposed to get info on chemicals used as well as cut sheets on owner provided equipment: grinding, molding, sanding, casting, etc. The original deadline was Friday, moved to next Tuesday and, of today, it will likely move to next Friday or possibly the Tuesday following.

More to say but I'll come back in a couple days.
